4 Great Window Styles for Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the busiest part of your home. As such, it needs windows that are practical, durable and easy to use, while providing ventilation, natural lighting and aesthetic improvement. In today’s post, Renewal by Andersen of Kansas City takes a look at four window styles that will look great in your kitchen.

1. Casement windows. Ventilation is a key part of daily activities in the kitchen — after all, you need to remove smoke, odors and excess humidity on a regular basis. What’s unique about a casement window is it’s the only window style that allows full use of the entire window area, providing the biggest opening possible when you need it. The greater glass area also gives you a better view of the immediate outdoor area, ideal for keeping an eye on your kids at play if the kitchen overlooks the yard.

2. Double-hung windows. Double-hung windows are generally thought of as bedroom windows, but the style is so versatile that a double-hung window won’t look out of place in a kitchen. The familiar design means you won’t have to think about how to use it. Multiple double-hung windows let you control the amount of ventilation that you let into your kitchen. In a small or auxiliary kitchen, a double-hung window can be opened in a way that it creates exhaust and intake vents in the same frame.

3. Sliding windows. Sliding windows are known for their space-saving features and sleek, modern look. They’re great if you happen to have a path or a patio right outside the kitchen, as protruding windows may get in the way. Sliding windows can be opened and closed with one hand, making them ideal as service windows.

4. Bay and bow windows. Bay and bow windows are protruding windows that can add some real estate to your kitchen, which can be used as a display or storage space. This style can also be used for informal seating or a banquette.
