How to Apply Lubricant to Moving Parts
The key thing to remember is: if it has moving parts, it will need lubrication. Casement windows have three sets of moving parts that you should keep in mind: operator arms, locking mechanisms, and, of course, the crank. First, try and see how far the window will open without resistance or a grinding feel to it. If you do, turn the crank back a few turns, then remove dirt and grit using a brush.
Spray silicone-based lubricant onto the operator arms and locking mechanisms. The operator arms have multiple joints, so make sure the lubricant is applied to them all. Depending on the type of hardware installed on your window, you may be able to remove the crank and cover, and apply lubricant to the crank mechanism.
How to Clean the Sashes
Traditionally, casement windows are difficult to clean because the hinges are in the way. Their modern counterparts, on the other hand, are as easy to clean as double-hung windows. Simply open the sashes about three-quarters of the way through, then reach around the gap between the sash and frame.

If the sashes won’t close properly, it’s either the window has loose hardware, or the frame may have warped. In either case, keep the window closed, and call your window contractor. Do not attempt to repair the window as it may void your warranty.
