ENERGY STAR® Certification: Why Does It Matter?

If you’ve been looking around for replacement windows, you may have noticed how most of them bear an ENERGY STAR® label. With steadily increasing energy costs, choosing replacement windows and patio doors that bear this certification can be beneficial in the long run. Renewal by Andersen® of Kansas City shares an in-depth look at the importance of the ENERGY STAR certification.

ENERGY STAR® Certification: Why Does It Matter?

What Is ENERGY STAR?

ENERGY STAR is a voluntary certification program initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was designed to help consumers identify energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products without having to read through specifications at point of purchase. ENERGY STAR certification was first applied in 1992 to computer products. Over the years it applied to nearly every product that consumes energy, or helps reduce energy consumption. Replacement windows fall into the latter category.

Why You Should Choose Replacement Windows With ENERGY STAR Certification

Your choice of replacement windows can affect your home’s energy consumption. As part of your home’s energy envelope – which also consists of the exterior walls, attic and entry doors – insulated replacement windows help minimize heat transference. With less heat passing through between interior and exterior spaces, less output is required from your home’s heating and cooling systems, resulting in significant energy savings.

Our replacement windows feature High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass packages. The dual glass panels, separated by nonconducting spacers, eliminate contact between interior and exterior surfaces. Unlike traditional single-panel glass, these dual-panel glass assemblies help keep your home’s energy envelope insulated. Our glass packages also have additional features like the low-emissivity coatings that block unwanted UV and infrared rays, and the optional insulating gas fills that enhance insulation.

Our Fibrex® frames complement our glass packages. Made from a combination of wood fibers and polymer, Fibrex has inherent insulation, in addition to strength, stability and low-maintenance requirements. These are the features that contribute to what made our replacement windows qualify for ENERGY STAR certification.
